Michelle McCarron

Michelle McCarron (she/her) works as a Mathematics Consultant in Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education (CCRCE) in Nova Scotia as well as a member of the Canadian Building Thinking Classroom (BTC) Team who centers her work around creating equitable and inclusive learning spaces for ALL students. Her instructional leadership is deeply influenced by her direct work with Dr. Peter Liljedahl, and she sees his Building Thinking Classroom Framework as a means to transform the teaching and learning of mathematics.

In her work as a consultant, Michelle supports and works alongside her educational partners to improve student well-being and success in mathematics through reflection upon and enhancement of mathematics instruction. She facilitates provincial, regional, and school-based professional learning and works closely with her CCRCE colleagues to develop and action system-wide improvement planning. 

Previous to her current role as consultant, Michelle worked as a middle school mathematics teacher, middle school mathematics intervention teacher, and P-8 mathematics coach. She is a part time instructor at St. Francis Xavier University (STFX) in the Mathematics Certificate Program and has earned a Master in Education in Curriculum & Instruction, with a focus in Middle School Mathematics; a Master in Education in Administration & Policy, with a focus in Mental Health Education, both from STFX; and a Diploma in Instructional Leadership through the Nova Scotia Instructional Leadership Academy. Michelle, along with her colleague Kirk Keating, is co-host of Adding to the Equation, a podcast to highlight and speak with some of their math hero’s and takes a deep and reflective dive towards creating equitable and accessible learning environments for ALL students.
