Kirk Keating
BTC Team Member, Canadian Consultant
Kirk Keating (he/him) is a middle school mathematics teacher in Truro, Nova Scotia who is implementing practices from the Building Thinking Classroom framework and seeing the positive impact these practices have on student learning and well being on a daily basis. Kirk had the opportunity to co-present with Dr. Peter Liljedahl and has facilitated provincial, regional and school sessions focusing on Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics at all grade levels.
Kirk has experience teaching middle school and high school mathematics in Alberta & Nova Scotia as well as experience co-teaching with grade 7 to 12 mathematics teachers as a regional mathematics coach for Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education. Kirk recently completed the Master of Mathematics for Teachers program through the University of Waterloo and is a co host of a podcast called, Adding to the Equation, where him and his colleague, Michelle McCarron interview some of their math hero’s and take a deep and reflective dive towards creating equitable and accessible learning environments for students.
Kirk’s passion for student learning, well being & the Building Thinking Classroom framework is evident whether he is teaching, facilitating professional learning or collaborating with educators.
