Tom Lewis (he/him) is a consultant on the BTC U.S. Team and has been supporting teachers, schools and districts with implementing Building Thinking Classrooms in grades K-12 since 2021. He is currently working with Peter Liljedahl, Author of Building Thinking Classrooms, on several projects, including the BTC Coaching Institute, BTC Teacher Institute, annual BTC Conference and researching tools and resources that support teachers, schools, districts and organizations in their implementation of the BTC Framework.

He was a classroom teacher for 26 years, grades 4-12. Beyond his days as a teacher, Tom has served as a math coach, school administrator, and educational consultant with over 36 total years of experience in education. He currently serves as District Math Coordinator for a school district in Northern California, leading the implementation of the BTC framework in grades K-12.

Tom is a strong advocate for student voice, inclusion, and equitable access to mathematics. He is especially passionate about using both quantitative and qualitative data to illuminate overlooked realities that drive organizational growth and improve the social-emotional well-being of students. He is driven by the belief that within all of us - kids and adults - there lives a creative, capable and confident mathematical thinker.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and grounds his work in a leadership philosophy built on three core commitments: relationships, team, and learning. Tom believes relationships are the foundation of trust and growth, and he is dedicated to empowering and inspiring teachers to embrace new practices that shift learning opportunities for students. By fostering supportive teams and helping to create safe spaces for participants to leverage collaboration, he helps educators take risks, reflect deeply, and build classrooms that center student thinking and student voices.

With deep experience and practical insight, Tom helps educators transform classrooms into spaces where all students can think, engage, and thrive.
