Xin Xin Cameron

Xin Xin Cameron (she/her) is a dedicated high school mathematics and physics teacher
passionate about enhancing teaching and learning through Building Thinking Classrooms (BTC).
Her interest in BTC began in 2017 while completing her Master of Education in Secondary
Mathematics Education, sparking a lasting commitment to research in this area. She is currently
a PhD candidate at Simon Fraser University, working under the supervision of Peter Liljedahl.

As a teacher with the Vancouver School Board, Xin Xin integrates BTC principles into her
mathematics and science classes. She collaborates closely with fellow BTC educators and
participates in conferences to stay current with emerging research. Her commitment to BTC is
driven by its impact on student engagement, inclusivity, and reshaping narratives in mathematics
education.

In her research, Xin Xin examines how tools, such as VNPS, impact teachers’ instructional
practices and improve students’ experiences in mathematics and science. Her expertise is
strengthened by her collaboration with Peter, bridging theory and practice across diverse
educational settings.

Born and raised in Beijing, China, Xin Xin completed her undergraduate and graduate studies in
science and engineering in Beijing and Tokyo, Japan. Fluent in Chinese, Japanese, and English,
she leverages her multilingual skills in both personal and professional contexts. She has led BTC
workshops in Hong Kong and bilingual sessions in Beijing for teachers from international and
local schools.

Xin Xin continues to grow as an educator and researcher, tailoring workshops and presentations
to meet varied needs, inspired by her belief in the transformative power of BTC.
